During this process, TAFE NSW has achieved a number of key objectives that we have set ourselves for the company negotiations: the agreed salary increase of 2.5% will be paid on 23 February 2017. This involves retroactive payments from the first full payment period, after TAFE NSW has entered into an agreement with the NSW Teachers Federation, i.e. on 2 December 2016. This may take time, but TAFE is determined to continue negotiating in good faith to try to reach an agreement with unions and negotiators.
Once these negotiations are completed, you will be asked to vote on a new company agreement. In the meantime, the existing company agreement, which covers wages and working conditions, remains in force. Accordingly, I would like to point out that TAFE NSW is using with immediate effect the current negotiation process for a company agreement to replace the TAFE Commission of NSW Teachers and Related Employees Enterprise Agreement 2013. TAFE NSW is about to start negotiations for a new company agreement for TAFE NSW employees, which will be covered by the TAFE Commission of NSW Teachers and Related Employees Enterprise Agreement 2013. The NERR exhibition is an important step in the process of meeting a company agreement. In the event of irregularities in this process, the Fair Work Commission will not approve a company agreement, even if it has been approved by a majority of employees. That would mean an additional delay of several months — a result I want to avoid. TAFE NSW and AEU NSW Teacher Federation have expressed their support for this cooperative approach which will be implemented in the 2015 round of negotiations.
